NFIB Nevada expressed gratitude to its small-business-owning members who attended the association’s Small Business Day on April 21. The event provided a platform for small business owners to engage with lawmakers and discuss pressing issues.
The gathering was attended by Assemblymembers Rebecca Edgeworth, Danielle Gallant, Duy Nguyen, and PK O’Neill, along with Madeline Armstrong, legislative director for Governor Joe Lombardo. Their presence highlighted the importance of dialogue between legislators and the small business community.
NFIB Nevada is currently focused on several legislative matters. The organization opposes the expansion of paid sick leave due to concerns about increased expenses for businesses operating on narrow margins. They also oppose the Captive Audience Law, which they argue restricts employers’ ability to discuss workplace issues openly with employees.
On a positive note, NFIB supports AB276, a bill that connects inflation to the lowest minimum commerce tax qualifying criterion. This legislation aims to reduce the number of small businesses affected by this tax.
NFIB Nevada encourages its members to remain engaged in legislative proceedings scheduled until June 2. Tray Abney, NFIB Nevada State Director, presented Guardian of Small Business Awards to Assemblymembers Danielle Gallant and PK O’Neill during the event.
Members who were unable to attend are encouraged to participate in future Small Business Days or add their voices through other means as elected representatives continue discussions impacting Nevada’s economy.
