Nevada Gold Mines (NGM), operated by Barrick, was recently honored with the Corporate Responsibility Award by the Latin Chamber of Commerce (LCC) Nevada. The award was presented during the Annual Latin Chamber of Commerce Celebration Gala held in Las Vegas.
NGM has been recognized for its substantial contributions to host communities and local stakeholders in Nevada. In 2021, the company provided $2.6 billion in social investments and economic contributions.
A significant focus for NGM has been investing in youth and education through various partnerships. One notable collaboration is a two-year, $2.2 million partnership with Discovery Education and the Nevada Department of Education, aimed at bringing online resources to students and teachers statewide. This program has been adopted by all schools across Nevada.
In addition, NGM has joined forces with the College of Southern Nevada and Clark County School District to offer high school students college-level certificates in Industrial Maintenance and Diesel Technology. The first group of students began this pilot program in Fall 2021, designed to prepare them for career readiness upon graduation.
Other collaborations include partnerships with institutions such as the University of Nevada Las Vegas, Touro University, and Communities In Schools, all focusing on enhancing education and workforce development within the state.
Peter Guzman, president of LCC, remarked on his visit to northern Nevada: “After visiting northern Nevada with my team, seeing the mining operations with my own eyes, meeting the people on the ground who truly care about the environment and getting a real education on mining, there was no doubt who deserved this award in 2021.”
Greg Walker, executive managing director of NGM said: “At Nevada Gold Mines, our vision is to create long-term value for all of Nevada, and we live out this vision by embedding the principles of partnership and sustainability into every decision we make.” He added that they are honored to receive this award from LCC.
The Corporate Responsibility Award is an annual recognition given to companies demonstrating strong commitment to corporate responsibility standards while actively supporting these efforts.
