The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) has announced the substantial completion of a roadway rehabilitation project on U.S. Highway 95 near Searchlight. This initiative aimed to enhance safety and prolong the lifespan of the highway. The project covered approximately 20 miles, focusing on pavement preservation, drainage improvements, and upgrading various roadway elements.
Beyond road enhancements, the project also prioritized environmental concerns by supporting habitat connectivity and protecting Mojave Desert wildlife, such as the threatened Mojave Desert tortoise. These efforts are in line with protections under the U.S. Endangered Species Act and Nevada Administrative Code (NAC 50.080).
Construction commenced in March 2025 and reached significant completion by December 2025. Key accomplishments include milling and paving throughout the area to improve ride quality, new signage for better visibility, hydraulic upgrades for enhanced performance, and repaired fencing with added tortoise barriers to safeguard local wildlife. Additionally, 13 culverts were converted into wildlife crossings to facilitate safe animal passage beneath the highway.
NDOT expressed gratitude to motorists for their patience during this critical preservation effort. While final cleanup and minor tasks may continue over the coming weeks, they are not expected to cause major traffic disruptions.
