The Nevada Department of Transportation announced a series of routine maintenance activities that will result in traffic restrictions across southern Nevada in late February and early March. The work includes crack sealing, lighting repairs, sign installation, and landscape maintenance.
The scheduled activities are expected to cause lane restrictions and minor delays for motorists during active work periods. According to the official announcement, daily lane restrictions will occur on northbound and southbound SR-173 between I-11 and U.S. 95 near Boulder City from Tuesday, Feb. 24 through Friday, March 6, between 5:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. On-and off-ramps to I-11 and U.S. 93 within the work zone will also be affected as crews conduct crack sealing operations to preserve the roadway surface.
Additional closures include shoulder and left lane closures on southbound I-11 between Charleston Boulevard and Flamingo Road from Tuesday, Feb. 24 through Friday, Feb. 27 (4:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.) for high mast lighting maintenance; lane restrictions on the southbound Buffalo Drive on-ramp to eastbound SR-613 (Summerlin Parkway) on Thursday, Feb. 26 (3:30 a.m. to 5:30 a.m.) for sign installation; and an HOV lane closure on westbound SR-613 between Buffalo Drive and Town Center Drive on Wednesday, March 4 (6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.) for landscaping maintenance.
The Nevada Department of Transportation promotes roadway safety through programs targeting zero fatalities and advances multimodal planning for aviation, public transit, freight, bicycle and pedestrian needs (according to the official website). The department manages about 5,400 miles of highways and more than 1,000 bridges statewide with operations organized through three districts in Las Vegas, Sparks, and Elko along with major maintenance stations for statewide coverage (according to the official website).
A seven-member board of directors oversees the department as it aims to provide, operate and preserve a reliable transportation system that boosts safety, quality of life and economic growth (according to the official website). The department covers southern, northwest and northeast Nevada through its districts (according to the official website).
Motorists are advised by NDOT to use caution while traveling through work zones or take alternate detour routes if possible. The schedule is subject to change due to weather or other factors.
