The Nevada Department of Transportation announced that it has reached substantial completion on its pavement preservation project for eastbound Interstate 215 between the I-15 interchange and Windmill Lane. The $18.95 million federally funded project aimed to deliver a smoother commute and enhanced safety along one of the Las Vegas Valley’s busiest corridors.
According to the department, nearly four miles of roadway were improved through pavement repairs, new surfacing, structural repairs, joint maintenance, signage, signal and lighting upgrades for better visibility, Americans with Disabilities Act improvements, fiber optic and intelligent transportation system expansion for regional traffic management, and installation of three new wrong-way driver alert systems. While infrastructure is in place for these alert systems at the westbound I-215 off-ramps to Las Vegas Boulevard, Warm Springs Road, and Windmill Lane, testing is ongoing and they are not yet online.
With most work complete, the speed limit through the project area has returned to 65 mph. The department thanked motorists for their patience during construction and reminded drivers to continue using caution when traveling through active work zones.
The Nevada Department of Transportation manages about 5,400 miles of highways and more than 1,000 bridges statewide according to the official website.
