The Nevada Department of Transportation announced it will begin a $41 million federally funded pavement preservation project on U.S. 95 in Clark County later this month, aiming to improve roadway conditions south of Boulder City.

The project covers approximately 17 miles of U.S. 95, from about seven miles north of Nelson Road to nearly three miles south of the Interstate 11 junction. Work includes milling and resurfacing the roadway, repairing damaged pavement, updating striping and signage, upgrading drainage and lighting, and installing tortoise fencing. According to the department’s announcement, left shoulder and left lane closures will occur on both northbound and southbound U.S. 95 between mileposts 37.5 and 44 near Eldorado Valley Drive starting at 8:00 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22 until 10:00 p.m. Sunday, March 22.

Construction is expected to be completed by winter 2026, weather permitting. During active construction periods, speed limits will be reduced to 55 mph through work zones for safety reasons. Motorists are advised to use caution while traveling through these areas and consider alternate detour routes if possible.

The Nevada Department of Transportation manages about 5,400 miles of highways and more than 1,000 bridges statewide according to the official website. The agency organizes its operations through three districts in Las Vegas, Sparks and Elko with major maintenance stations for statewide coverage according to the official website. These districts cover southern, northwest and northeast Nevada according to the official website.

A seven-member board oversees the department according to the official website. The agency promotes roadway safety through programs targeting zero fatalities and advances multimodal planning for aviation, public transit, freight, bicycle and pedestrian needs according to the official website. Its said aim is “to provide, operate and preserve a reliable and sustainable transportation system that boosts safety, quality of life and economic growth” according to the official website.
