The Nevada Department of Transportation announced on March 25 an updated schedule of overnight traffic restrictions on Sunset Road (State Route 562) as part of an ongoing pavement rehabilitation project. The work aims to improve nearly three miles of pavement between Las Vegas Boulevard and Annie Oakley Drive, enhancing safety and extending the life of the roadway.

According to the department, nightly lane reductions will take place from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 25 through Monday, April 13. During this period, Sunset Road will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Eastern Avenue and Annie Oakley Drive. The Pilot Drive and Grier Drive bridges over the Airport Connector will be limited to one side of the bridge, with both directions of traffic sharing the open side. The Sunset Road bridge over the Airport Connector will experience intermittent double lane closures, either left or right lanes, but access to the Airport Connector on-ramp will be maintained. No work is scheduled for Friday or Saturday evenings.

Motorists are advised to use caution while traveling through these work zones and consider alternate detour routes if possible. The department works with Waze to inform drivers about planned highway restrictions. “The schedule is subject to change due to weather or other factors,” according to the Nevada Department of Transportation.

The Nevada Department of Transportation manages about 5,400 miles of highways and more than 1,000 bridges statewide, according to the official website. Operations are organized through three districts in Las Vegas, Sparks and Elko along with major maintenance stations for statewide coverage. The department covers southern, northwest and northeast Nevada through its districts.

A seven-member board oversees operations at the department as it promotes roadway safety through programs targeting zero fatalities and advances multimodal planning for aviation, public transit, freight, bicycle and pedestrian needs. It aims to provide, operate and preserve a reliable and sustainable transportation system that boosts safety, quality of life and economic growth.

Additional state highway information is available at dot.nv.gov or by calling (775) 888-7000. For up-to-date state highway conditions visit nvroads.com or call 511 before driving. More details can also be found as listed on the organization’s website.
