The Nevada Department of Agriculture (NDA) has announced the appointment of Peter Rolfe, DVM, as the new State Veterinarian. Dr. Rolfe joins the NDA after serving as a regulatory veterinarian for the Colorado Department of Agriculture.

“We are very excited to welcome Dr. Rolfe as part of our team at the NDA,” said Director J.J. Goicoechea. “His regulatory and thorough veterinary background will be a great asset to the work we’re doing in the state.”

Dr. Rolfe holds a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Oregon State University and brings over two decades of experience in large animal practice. Originally from Reno, he expressed enthusiasm about returning to Nevada.

The mission of the Nevada Department of Agriculture is to preserve, protect, and promote agriculture within the state. The department employs 225 staff members across its five divisions: Administrative Services, Animal Industry, Measurement Standards, Food and Nutrition, and Plant Health and Compliance. With a budget of $288 million, it oversees regulatory and administrative functions in agriculture and food manufacturing industries while ensuring public health, environmental safety, worker protection, and food distribution through USDA school and community nutrition programs.
