Nevada softball secured a historic victory on May 8, defeating No. 25 Grand Canyon University 14–10 at Christina M. Hixson Softball Park to reach the Credit Union 1 Mountain West Championship Game for the first time.

This win marks Nevada’s inaugural appearance in the championship game since the tournament was reinstated. The team will compete against either Grand Canyon or New Mexico at noon tomorrow, with an NCAA Tournament berth on the line.

The Wolf Pack offense was strong throughout, scoring in six of seven innings and posting 11 runs in the first four frames. Hannah Di Genova led off with a two-out solo home run—her 26th of the season—and went on to finish with three hits, three runs scored, and two RBIs. Talia Tretton contributed significantly as well, going two-for-three with four RBIs and hitting a home run in the third inning.

Other key contributors included Katie Wetteland, who scored three times and doubled; Matlyn Leetch, who tripled and drove in three runs; and Rylie Haith, who hit a three-run homer in the second inning. In relief pitching, Hailey McLean threw for five-and-two-thirds innings with thirteen strikeouts to earn her eleventh win of the season.

The victory positions Nevada for an opportunity to claim its first conference title on its home field.
