The Nevada Department of Transportation announced on April 2 an updated schedule of traffic restrictions on Sunset Road as part of a pavement rehabilitation project. The work will improve nearly three miles of pavement between Las Vegas Boulevard and Annie Oakley Drive, with the goal of enhancing safety and extending the life of the roadway.
The department said that paving, bridge inspections, and signage work require several closures and lane reductions. From 11 p.m. Tuesday, April 7 to 8 a.m. Wednesday, April 8, the Sunset Road on-ramp to southbound Airport Connector will be closed along with two right lanes on southbound Airport Connector. Drivers are advised to use a detour via Las Vegas Boulevard and I-215 connections.
Nightly from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., March 25 through April 13 (excluding Friday and Saturday evenings), Sunset Road will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Eastern Avenue and Annie Oakley Drive. The Pilot Drive and Grier Drive bridges over the Airport Connector will be reduced to one side for both directions of traffic, while intermittent double lane closures are planned for the Sunset Road bridge over Airport Connector.
Motorists are encouraged to use caution in work zones and consider alternate routes where possible. “NDOT works with Waze to inform the public about planned highway restrictions. The schedule is subject to change due to weather or other factors,” according to the Nevada Department of Transportation.
