The delta variant of the COVID-19 virus is the leading cause behind the increased number of cases in Clark County, according to data published by health officials, News 3 reported.
However, 90 cases have also been detected which are allegedly caused by the mu variant, a variant first detected in Columbia.
“Please get vaccinated. Our hospitals are packed full and we are pulling extra hours to do everything we can to help out patients, community and support our co-workers,” Melane Bennet-Marsh, a Nevada nurse, said in a Facebook post Sept. 19.
As of September 10, 107 instances have been identified that are caused by delta plus and as many as 4,825 cases have been identified that are caused by the delta variant, News 3 reported. Delta plus refers to three subtypes of the original delta variant, according to Healthline.
More than 60% of the population of Clark County are fully vaccinated, and more than 73% have received at least one dose, News 3 reported. According to health experts, there is a much lower chance of catching the virus when fully vaccinated.
In the month of September, one out of every five new cases of COVID-19 in Clark County is a person who already got the vaccine, 8 News Now reported.
