A Mexican national with a prior drug trafficking conviction has been sentenced to 13 months and one day in federal prison for illegally reentering the United States after being deported twice. The sentencing was handed down by U.S. District Judge Gloria Navarro, who also ordered three years of supervised release.
Court documents show that Gutierrez-Chavarria was first deported from the United States on April 5, 2022, following a 16-year prison sentence stemming from a 2007 felony drug trafficking conviction. He was removed again on September 6, 2022. On December 13, 2024, Gutierrez-Chavarria was arrested by Las Vegas Metropolitan Police for three counts related to selling and transporting controlled substances as well as trafficking controlled substances. After being released on bail, he was arrested by ICE on February 20, 2025.
Gutierrez-Chavarria pleaded guilty to one count of Deported Alien Found in the United States.
“Acting United States Attorney Sigal Chattah for the District of Nevada and Salt Lake City Field Office Director Jason Knight made the announcement.”
