A Mexican national, Felipe De Jesus Jauregui-Acosta, 43, appeared in court on Monday to face charges of illegally reentering the United States after being previously removed. He is charged with one count of being a deported alien found in the United States. A preliminary hearing is set for September 22, 2025, before United States Magistrate Judge Brenda N. Weksler.
Court documents and statements indicate that Jauregui-Acosta, a citizen of Mexico, was deported from the U.S. on October 5, 2008. Authorities allege he reentered the country without permission and was recently identified by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) following his arrest by Las Vegas Metropolitan Police on May 4, 2025. The charges at that time included resisting a public officer with a deadly weapon not a firearm, assault with a deadly weapon on a first responder, battery with a deadly weapon on a first responder, and possession or use of drug paraphernalia.
Jauregui-Acosta was convicted on July 3, 2025, for resisting a public officer with use of a dangerous weapon.
If found guilty of the current charge, Jauregui-Acosta could face up to two years in prison, one year of supervised release, a fine of $250,000, and a $100 special assessment.
