Stavros Anthony, Nevada’s lieutenant governor, expressed his commendation for the St. Simeon Serbian Orthodox community’s commitment to constructing a new church in Las Vegas during a recent fundraiser.
“Honored to participate and support fundraising efforts by the St. Simeon Serbian Orthodox community in building a new church in Las Vegas,” said Stavros S. Anthony, Nevada State Executive – Lieutenant Governor (R). “This fundraiser was well attended and I congratulated their efforts in building a new house of worship.”
The St. Simeon Serbian Orthodox community is undertaking this project to accommodate the area’s expanding Orthodox Christian population. The event attracted local officials, clergy, and community members who gathered to celebrate and raise funds for the initiative.
According to demographic estimates, Clark County’s Serbian-American population has been on the rise, with more than 10,000 residents of Serbian heritage now residing in Southern Nevada. The planned expansion of St. Simeon aims to meet the growing demand for cultural and religious institutions within the Las Vegas Valley.
Faith-based organizations play a vital role in Nevada’s civic life, with over 60% of residents identifying with a religion. In the Las Vegas region, churches and temples often function as community centers that provide outreach services, education, and cultural preservation.
Anthony serves as Nevada’s lieutenant governor and is a former Las Vegas city councilman. His career includes service as a retired police captain and lifelong Nevadan. He has consistently focused on public safety, community service, and supporting local faith-based initiatives throughout the state.
