Nevada Lieutenant Governor Stavros Anthony said that the state’s approach to women’s sports is based on common sense and fairness, highlighting that no incidents have occurred since the establishment of his Task Force on Protecting Women’s Sports.
“California is forcing schools to exit Nevada,” said Stavros S. Anthony, Nevada State Executive – Lieutenant Governor (R). “We are taking a commonsense approach with female athletes. Since my Task Force on Protecting Women’s Sports, there has not been an incident with men playing in women’s sports.”
The Tahoe Truckee Unified School District, situated along the California-Nevada border, has been directed by California authorities to cease competing in Nevada athletic leagues due to differing gender participation policies. This decision has faced criticism from local leaders and parents.
According to Nevada’s Task Force on Protecting Women’s Sports, which was established under Lieutenant Governor Anthony in 2024, the aim is to maintain fairness and safety in women’s athletics by ensuring competition aligns with biological sex categories. In contrast, California law allows transgender students to participate in sports consistent with their gender identity, creating a policy divide that complicates cross-border competition and scheduling for regional schools.
Anthony, elected as lieutenant governor of Nevada in 2022, is a former Las Vegas city councilman and police officer. His statewide initiatives focus on public safety, education, and protecting women’s sports.
