The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department announced on April 20 that a vehicle versus pedestrian collision occurred at South Casino Drive and Tropicana Drive in Laughlin, Nevada, resulting in the death of an 82-year-old male pedestrian from Roselle, Illinois. The incident marks the 40th traffic-related fatality within the department’s jurisdiction for 2026.
According to police, the collision took place on April 19 at approximately 1:09 p.m. Evidence from the scene, video surveillance, and witness statements indicated that the pedestrian was crossing South Casino Drive from west to east north of a marked crosswalk when he entered the path of a southbound Jeep Grand Cherokee. The vehicle struck the pedestrian with its front right side.
Emergency medical personnel transported the injured man to Western Arizona Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Despite all life-saving measures taken upon arrival at the hospital, he was pronounced dead by medical staff shortly after admission. The driver of the Jeep Grand Cherokee, identified as Richard Salecki, age 80 of Golden Valley, Arizona, was not injured and showed no signs of impairment.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said its Collision Investigation Section is continuing to investigate this incident.
