The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department announced on April 16 that a passenger died following a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of West Lake Mead Boulevard and Del Webb Boulevard.
The incident, which occurred on March 7 at approximately 4:41 p.m., involved a 2006 Mercedes-Benz C-Class traveling eastbound with one passenger and a Toyota Rav4 traveling westbound. According to evidence from the scene and witness statements, the Mercedes-Benz attempted to turn left onto Del Webb Boulevard as the Toyota reached the intersection, resulting in a collision. The front of the Toyota struck the right front of the Mercedes-Benz, causing the Toyota to come to rest at the northwest corner of the intersection.
Emergency medical personnel transported all individuals involved to University Medical Center. Despite medical efforts, police said that “the passenger of the Mercedes-Benz succumbed to her injuries on April 8, 2026.” The driver of the Mercedes-Benz was identified as Eleftherios Chondros, age 78 from Costa Mesa, California, who sustained serious injuries. The identity of his passenger is pending notification; she was reported as a 74-year-old female also from Costa Mesa. The driver of the Toyota Rav4 was described as a 17-year-old male from Las Vegas who claimed injury.
Police said they follow federal standards for classifying traffic fatalities set by agencies such as National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and guidelines in manuals like those published by American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS). Under these standards, only deaths occurring within thirty days are counted as traffic fatalities for federal reporting purposes. However, deaths related to crash injuries outside this period are still fully investigated but not assigned an official fatal number.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department stated that “the collision remains under investigation by [its] Collision Investigation Section.”
