Gov. Steve Sisolak’s office recently announced that the state’s first public health resource officer, Allison Genco, will begin her job April 11.
The governor introduced Senate Bill 424 during last year’s legislature session to create the Public Health Resource Office, according to a press release from the governor’s office.
The new office is responsible for analyzing public health infrastructure of the state and making recommendations related to “unmet needs,” opportunities for federal and private grant funding, as well as improved coordination between providers of public health services, the release stated.
“I am excited that Allison will continue her service to the state in this role,” Sisolak said in the release. “Throughout COVID-19 we have seen areas where we can develop a stronger, more resilient public health infrastructure and Allison will be key to bringing partners to the table to better understand the needs of our state, funding opportunities we can leverage and how to better serve Nevadans in all regions of the state.”
Prior to her new position, Genco worked with the governor’s Nevada Health Response team that helped cultivate Nevada’s COVID-19 efforts, according to the release.
“I am honored to be able to serve Nevadans in this new role,” said Genco. “The Public Health Resource Office is an incredible opportunity to help build resources and lasting infrastructure to increase public health capacity statewide. I look forward to working with community partners across Nevada to better serve all our residents.”
