Greg Valente of Nevada was named Mountain West Men’s Tennis Player of the Week on Apr. 20 after securing a comeback victory that clinched a win for his team over No. 65 Grand Canyon University.

Valente’s performance played a decisive role in Nevada’s narrow 4-3 victory, highlighting his resilience and ability to perform under pressure.

The match extended over three and a half hours, with the final outcome hinging on Valente’s contest against Daniel Jankoski at position No. 4. After Nevada lost the doubles point and later faced a 3-2 deficit, the team managed to tie the score at three-all, focusing attention on Court 4 where Valente competed.

Despite losing the first set in a close tiebreaker (9-7), Valente recovered by winning the second set 6-4. He maintained momentum into the third set, ultimately winning it decisively with a score of 6-2 to secure both his individual match and Nevada’s overall dual victory.

Looking ahead, Nevada will travel to Las Vegas this week for the Credit Union 1 Men’s Tennis Championship. The Wolf Pack is scheduled to open play Wednesday at 1 p.m., facing top-seeded Utah State.
