Gov. Steve Sisolak on Jan. 4 announced that more than 300 applications were submitted through Nevada’s new “Community Recovery Grant” program with funding requests totaling over $445 million.
A release issued by the governor’s office said the program was launched in December to utilize the state’s existing nonprofit organizations to provide direct and immediate community services.
“More than 300 organizations applied for the ‘Community Recovery Grant’ program launched last month with federal funds,” Sisolak tweeted Jan. 4. “I want to thank our nonprofits who put together thoughtful applications during the holidays.”
The program is financed by American Rescue Plan funds, according to the governor’s office.
The applications will be reviewed and evaluated through the rest of the month and the Nevada Legislature’s Interim Finance Committee will vet the first batch in February.
State Sen. Chris Brooks (D-Las Vegas) said he was encouraged by the number of applicants.
“As we continue to come back stronger from this pandemic, I am encouraged to see so many Nevada nonprofits apply to the Community Recovery Grant Program,” Brooks, who chairs the Interim Finance Committee, said in the release. “Thanks to the (President Joe) Biden administration and the American Rescue Plan, Nevada is able to provide local nonprofits with $30 million to combat disparities and improve the lives of families who are experiencing hardships as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
