Members of the NFIB Nevada Leadership Council met with Governor Joe Lombardo on May 15 in Las Vegas. The discussion centered on the economy and upcoming legislative issues for the 2025 State Legislature session.

During the meeting, small-business owners expressed concerns about topics including minimum-wage increases, permitting, water rights, charter schools, and a health-care public option. Governor Lombardo shared his perspectives, referencing “his support for raising the exemption level of the commerce tax” and “his executive order requiring every state agency, board, and commission to review and eliminate needless regulations.” Lombardo also emphasized “his efforts on education and public safety” as well as “the importance of having a partisan balance in Carson City.”

Tray Abney, State Director for NFIB in Nevada, remarked on the interaction, stating, “We thanked the governor for making the time to meet with NFIB members and hear their concerns.” He added, “No one speaks with more authority on small-business issues and small-business owners, and this meeting with the governor was valuable for him and for us to help refine the goals for next year’s session of the State Legislature.”

The session underscores the advantage of NFIB membership, which facilitates direct communication between small-business owners and policymakers. Elected officials benefit from these discussions, often appreciating hearing directly from the Small Business Voice.
