Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo expressed his honor in recognizing Army veterans Karolyn and Scott Hooper for their service and contributions to fellow veterans.
“Honored to present the flag to U.S. Army veterans Karolyn and Scott Hooper during the UNR vs. UNLV game,” said Lombardo. “Karolyn and Scott co-founded Horsemanship for Heroes, and both retired in 2016 after 49 years of active-duty service.”
Governor Lombardo participated in a halftime ceremony during the University of Nevada, Reno vs. University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) football game, where he presented a U.S. flag to the Hoopers. This recognition underscored Nevada’s ongoing commitment to honoring military service.
According to state data, Nevada is home to more than 225,000 veterans, representing roughly 7% of the state’s population. State programs, including the Nevada Department of Veterans Services, provide resources for education, housing, and mental health support.
Horsemanship for Heroes, founded by Karolyn and Scott Hooper, offers equine-assisted therapy for veterans dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and physical injuries. The program collaborates with regional ranches and Veterans Affairs (VA) networks to enhance veteran wellness outreach.
Lombardo is the 31st Governor of Nevada and a U.S. Army veteran himself. Before his election in 2022, he served two terms as Clark County Sheriff, focusing on public safety, veterans’ initiatives, and community service engagement.
