Joe Lombardo, Governor of Nevada, said that his visit to Sunrise Children’s Hospital in Nevada provided an opportunity to meet with families and express gratitude to the medical staff at the state’s primary children’s healthcare facility.
“Donna and I had the meaningful opportunity to visit patients, families, and care teams at Sunrise Children’s Hospital,” said Joseph Michael Lombardo. “Sunrise Children’s Hospital is Nevada’s most comprehensive pediatric hospital. it was a privilege to connect with patients and thank caregivers who do life-saving work every day.”
According to Lombardo’s post on X, he and his wife visited Sunrise Children’s Hospital in Las Vegas. The update describes the hospital as a leading pediatric center and expresses appreciation for the care teams’ daily efforts. Sunrise Children’s Hospital in Las Vegas operates as Nevada’s largest pediatric facility, offering specialized services including a 72-bed neonatal intensive care unit. The hospital manages thousands of admissions annually for emergency, surgical, and specialty care needs across the region. It is recognized for quality outcomes as part of the Sunrise Health System network.
Pediatric capabilities in United States hospitals have shown shifts where minimal services increased from 26.7 percent in 2003 to 65.0 percent by 2022 among over 3,000 facilities. National data indicates around 250 dedicated children’s hospitals provide millions of inpatient stays annually with varying bed numbers. Rural areas continue to face limitations in access to these specialized resources compared to urban centers.
Lombardo was born on November 8, 1962, in Sapporo, Japan, and attended the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, earning degrees in civil engineering and crisis management. He served in the United States Army and Nevada National Guard before joining the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in 1988, advancing to assistant sheriff. As a Republican, he was sheriff of Clark County from 2015 to 2023 prior to his governorship.
