The University of Nevada, Las Vegas softball team had four players recognized on the Mountain West All-MW postseason awards list, with freshman Lauren Fettic earning Pitcher of the Year honors, according to a May 6 announcement from the league office.
The recognition highlights individual achievements for UNLV’s program. The selection of Fettic as Pitcher of the Year marks her first career Mountain West award and makes her the first Rebel in nearly two decades to earn this honor since Christine Robinson in 2007. It is also notable that Fettic is the first UNLV pitcher under head coach Kristie Fox to be named Pitcher of the Year and is the first freshman to win this award since 2019.
Senior Keyanahh Chavez and Fettic were selected to the All-Mountain West first team, while senior Diamond Sefe and sophomore Mantha Hatzenbeller earned second team recognition. This year’s awards are a first for all four athletes.
Fettic led UNLV’s pitching staff with a 2.91 earned run average during league play, ranking second in conference standings. She made 20 appearances—including 13 starts—accumulating 86.2 innings pitched and recording 51 strikeouts, both figures placing her second among conference pitchers. Fettic completed five games, including a nine-inning performance against Grand Canyon on April 24, finished with a record of nine wins (tied for most in conference), and recorded three saves (also tied for league lead).
Chavez was an offensive leader throughout her senior season, batting .457—second highest in conference—and leading UNLV with 51 hits (fifth in MW). She drew a team-high nineteen walks (third in MW), tallied twenty runs batted in (RBI), hit four home runs—including one that secured victory over Grand Canyon—and posted a .700 slugging percentage along with a .576 on-base percentage.
Sefe contributed by batting .406 across all twenty-five league games—placing among top ten hitters—and collecting twenty-five hits, including four doubles and two home runs. She scored eighteen times (second most for Rebels) and maintained strong percentages both slugging (.551) and on-base (.523). Sefe walked sixteen times against MW opponents (tied fifth) and ranked third on her team with fourteen RBI.
Hatzenbeller closed out her sophomore campaign as UNLV’s home run leader with nine round-trippers (tied fourth MW). She also led teammates in runs scored (twenty), slugging percentage (.882; third MW), RBI (twenty-five; top seven MW), triples (two; top seven MW), while collecting twenty-five hits and drawing nine walks during conference play. Her standout game came at Boise State where she went four-for-four at bat including two two-run homers.
UNLV will open its participation at the Mountain West Softball Championships Thursday evening as it awaits its opponent—the winner between University of Nevada Reno and Colorado State.
