FOIA Request to Nevada Secretary of State – Elections Division Regarding Absentee Ballots Information for 2024 General Election on September 25, 2024.

As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Silver State Times have submitted a request under the Nevada Open Records Act § 239 et seq. We are seeking detailed information about the absentee ballots that were sent out to voters for the November 5, 2024 General Election.

Our request specifically includes data fields such as Voter ID, Registration Date, DoB/Age, First Name, Middle Name, Last Name, Name Suffix, Registration Status and Reason, County and Precinct of registration. We also requested details about voter contact information including Address, City, State, Phone number and Email Address.

Additionally, we asked for Party Affiliation details and Absentee Status. To provide a complete picture of the voting process, we requested information about the Ballot ID and Election Date for ballots sent. The type of ballot request (Absentee, Mail-In, Early or Overseas), along with the dates of ballot request and return were also included in our request.

Finally, we sought information about the status of each ballot – whether it was accepted or rejected.

We believe that access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we have requested a fee waiver for this service.
