Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak has named the leadership team for a project to help residents deal with “extreme heat” from climate change, according to a news release.
President Joe Biden published the Executive Order 14008 on tackling the climate crisis. The regulation requires that 40% of federal contributions in clean energy, transit, housing, workforce development, pollution and clean water gets to the most disadvantaged communities.
“To ensure the most vulnerable Nevadans are able to weather the worst impacts of climate change, I am committed to ensuring we appropriately direct federal resources that support the Justice 40 Initiative,” Sisolak said in a statement. “Low-income households and historically marginalized communities are bearing the brunt of the impacts of climate change, particularly when it comes to extreme heat. I am proud to have inter-agency teams that are focused on climate and environmental justice working together to develop this plan.”
The Environmental Justice Team appointed by Sisolak will “engage in all next steps on climate change taken by the state, including the extreme heat plan,” the news release said.
The plan will “identify threats and potential solutions that will inform policymakers grappling with this hazard. Both teams will draw on expertise from across Nevada’s public and private sectors in order to create the most comprehensive plans possible,” according to the release.
