An 84-unit housing project will be developed on the westside of Las Vegas after receiving approval at the Oct. 19 meeting of the City Council.
According to a news release shared by the Las Vegas government, the city entered into a development agreement with Arthaus IV LLC for a project on six parcels of undeveloped property at the intersection of D Street and Jefferson Avenue. The project will also include 10,000 square feet of commercial space.
“This is an exciting new development planned in the Historic Westside,” Ward 5 Councilman Cedric Crear said in the release. “Creating new jobs and making housing available to our residents is critical to ensuring the community thrives.”
The development of the building will facilitate 74 indirect jobs, along with 198 full-time equivalent jobs. The project has an estimated price tag of $18 million and is the first new building in several years that will be constructed to serve the area.
The city has initially solicited a request for proposals for the development of the project after buying the land to provide workforce housing. When no suitable proposals were presented to the city, the Las Vegas Redevelopment Agency worked out the development deal with Arthaus IV LLC.
The site is the former home of the New Jerusalem church, and the new building will utilize salvaged materials from the building, along with honoring the area with the design of the façade.
