The 31st annual Disability Awareness Day celebration took place over the weekend at the Sammy Davis Jr. Festival Plaza in Lorenzi Park.
According to a news release shared by the Las Vegas government, the event provided people with the ability to receive their COVID-19 booster shots.
“This annual event brings welcome resources to families in need,” said Ward 5 Councilman Cedric Crear in the release. “Bring the whole family for a fun day in the park while you learn what assistance is available and network with new contacts to make life better for family members or friends with disabilities.”
National Disability Awareness Month is October and the event had live music and COVID-19 related supplies to stay safe such as free test kits, a free mask and free hand sanitizer.
Attendees also received assistance with a variety of resources including transportation, legal services, employment, independent living, financial planning, housing and adaptive equipment.
Aside from the City of Las Vegas, several organizations were also on hand including American Sign Language interpreters, The Southern Nevada Center for Independent Living, Southern Nevada Community Health Center and The Challenger Newspaper, who all sponsored the event.
