City Of Sparks issued the following announcement on Jan. 07.

In his January update, Councilman Paul Anderson talks about an important pump project going on at the Sparks Marina and gives updates on other projects at the Marina as well.

And, speaking of the marina, did you know…

• It used to be the Helms Pit before the 1997 flood?

• It contains about 1 billion gallons of water?

• It is replenished daily with 2 to 3 million gallons of fresh water from a natural underground aquifer?

• Specialized pumps take approximately three million gallons of fresh water out of the marina and into the Truckee River every day? Happy New Year everyone!
