Federal and municipal leaders stated this week that the I-15/Tropicana Design-Build project has begun.
According to a news release by the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT), Director Kristina Swallow was joined by U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Gov. Steve Sisolak and area leaders for a kick-off event held near the project at Allegiant Stadium
“The I-15/Tropicana Interchange project is one of the most impactful projects in Nevada history,” said Swallow.
The $305 million project is being partially funded by the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act that was signed by President Biden in 2021 and is expected to facilitate 4,600 jobs, according to NDOT.
“We’re improving a road design that was set up long before Las Vegas looked the way that it did,” Buttigieg said. “Modernizing this intersection is going to help more people to get to where they need to go more safely, more efficiently and more reliably.”
According to the release, the scope of work involves replacing the existing Tropicana Avenue bridge over I-15 with a wider and longer structure that will allow for the future widening of I-15. This will provide room under the bridge for expanding I-15 in the future and the new, wider bridge will allow for additional travel lanes.
