Boulder City’s Police and Fire Departments recently hosted a virtual version of its National Night Out event on Oct. 5 in an effort to minimize residents’ exposure to COVID-19, according to a city press release.
The decision to host the event online was made in response to an increase in positive COVID-19 cases and a low rate of fully vaccinated people in the city, which is currently less than 60%.
“These are tough decisions and I assure you they are made with health and wellness as our top priority,” Boulder City Fire Department Chief Will Gray stated in the press release. “The virtual visits give everyone an opportunity to learn about facets of public safety while keeping residents and our staff safe.”
The Boulder City Police Police and Fire departments created videos for the event to substitute in-person tours of popular children’s attractions such as the Boulder City Fire Department’s Ladder and the Boulder City Police Department’s Mounted Unit.
Holly Webb, a digital technician, and Carly Poindexter, a communications specialist, collaborated to produce the videos, which are currently available on YouTube and will began airing on BC-TV on Thursday, Sept. 30.
COVID-19 testing will be extended by the city until the end of October.
