Today, Attorney General Aaron D. Ford announced the final arrest in a case involving the deaths of three inmates and injuries to five others at Ely State Prison. The arrest was made on March 5, concluding a series of charges against twenty defendants.
The individuals face multiple charges, including three counts of First-Degree Murder with Use of a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Promote or Assist a Criminal Gang and five counts of Attempted Murder with Use of a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Promote or Assist a Criminal Gang.
Attorney General Ford emphasized the importance of accountability within the prison system, stating, “The pursuit of justice does not stop at the prison gates, and those responsible for the deaths of the three inmates at Ely State Prison will be held accountable.” He further affirmed their commitment to addressing violence and misconduct in state correctional facilities: “We remain committed to ensuring that violence and misconduct within our state correctional system are met with the full force of the law.”
The incident occurred on July 30, 2024. The investigation is being conducted by the White Pine County Sheriff’s Office. Attorney General Ford expressed gratitude for the support from various law enforcement agencies including the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Sparks Police Department, Reno Police Department, Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, and Nevada Office of Inspector General.
