Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo officially approved a series of education bills May 31 with a primary focus on funding and safety.

According to News 3, these bills, the K-12 Education Funding Bill, Assembly Bill 330 (also known as the Safer and Supportive Schools Act), and Assembly Bill 285, all center around the funding and safety within Nevada's schools. 

"Last night I signed AB 330, my Safer and Supportive Schools Act into law, fulfilling a promise I made to Nevadans months ago. School violence has no place in our state and no place in our communities," Gov. Lombardo wrote in a June 1 Twitter post. "AB 330 is a tremendous victory for our teachers and our kids."

The move comes after Lombardo issued a statement last month, stressing the importance of passing bills on school choice and school safety, crime reduction, and more. He also made it clear that these matters were significant enough for him to consider vetoing the entire budget if they were not addressed adequately, The Nevada Globe reports.

Assembly Bill 285 and Assembly Bill 330 aim to comprehensively tackle the issue of school safety by introducing revised disciplinary measures and establishing guidelines for student expulsion in specific circumstances, including instances of violent behavior or possession of weapons, as reported by 8 News.

The K-12 Education Funding Bill is a two-year funding initiative that focuses on all Nevada students. With a substantial amount of $12 billion, this bill not only enhances overall funding for each student but also includes a significant allocation for special education, 8 News reported.

"In terms of working together, you have this one that focuses on discipline, this one leans a little bit more toward support and the best environment that you have good discipline that's fair and that's equitable that we track," said Assemblywoman Angie Taylor (D-Reno), according to 2 News. 

"In addition to how do we help teachers utilize it and how do we help students get better if and when and if they make a bad decision," she added.
